Keepers of the Green

Keepers of the Green is a Charitable Golfing Fellowship based in St Andrews, with a worldwide membership.

KOTG’s aim is to have a lot of fun and simultaneously to promote the best traditions of  golf and to raise funds to provide powered wheelchairs. This is real blessing for many, from  the youngest to the oldest, for whom their  manually powered chairs have become an excessive physical burden – or for their carers who may also not be as able as once they were.

KOTG promotes the traditions of golf by playing tournaments with hickory clubs manufactured by skilled craftsmen in St Andrews. Two or three tournaments per year are run in St Andrews and also in the U.S.A, in Maryland, Texas and Ohio,  organised our American members.

Funding is raised from individual and corporate sponsors. In the past 11 years in the U.K. the charity has provided over 90 powered wheelchairs, at a cost of now of just under £3000 per chair. The presentation of powered wheelchairs is made each year wherever the Open Championship is held.

This year at the Open in Carnoustie, KOTG anticipates presenting at least 5 powered wheelchairs to recipients local to Carnoustie and Tayside, where the donors, as guests of KOTG for the presentation and the day’s play, meet the recipient of "their" chair. It is a heart warming  occasion.

The Sportsman's Charity’s support in providing a minimum of one chair year after year is encouraging, invaluable and makes an enormously positive impact on the life of the  recipient and upon those on whom he or she depends. KOTG acknowledges this constant support with gratitude.

If you would ever consider putting your name to one of these chairs, personally or corporately, or contributing, please contact the Sportsman's Charity’s Finance Director - Harry Richmond on 07793 889 522.
