Applying for funds

Applying for funds

Distribution policy

The Sportsman’s Charity (Scottish Charity No SC033982) was established in 1983 to raise and distribute funds to other charitable organisations.

Who can apply?

Organisations registered with OSCR or with the Charity Commission.  The Trustees will consider applications from charities working in Scotland in the fields of sport, children and young people, disability and the disadvantaged.

What we will fund

Over the years The Sportsman’s Charity has supported a wide range of charitable activities as can be seen from the list of beneficiaries. Our principle aim is to provide support which can make a significant difference to the delivery of existing activities, rather than funding running costs or overheads.  A major proportion of the distributed of funds is by grants to smaller charities and projects. In addition, each year the Charity identifies two partner organisations which will receive a significant proportion of the funds raised at The Sportsman’s Dinner.

The Trustees meet regularly to consider distributions and will be entitled to support causes for which no formal appeal letter or application has been made.

What we will not fund

The Charity has limited funds at its disposal and restricted areas within which it operates and therefore cannot support all causes for which appeals are made.  The Charity does not support individuals or animal welfare charities. It will not fund running costs or overheads.

Size of distribution

Most distributions awarded have been in the range £500.00 - £5,000.00.  However, in addition, each year the Charity identifies two partner organisations which will receive a significant proportion of the funds raised at The Sportsman’s Charity Dinner.
